General fitting, further details are below

NB! Before fitting any cap it is essential that the valve stem turns freely. Use a spanner to free up the valve stem if required.

Wheelhead

Select drive disk that matches the valve spindle. (File spindle if necessary).

Place disk inside cap and push fully home on to drive pegs. If using Disk No 4, fit only as shown below.

If required, use extension collar to obtain snug fit.

Position cap over spindle and rotate until disk engages.

Gently tap the top of the cap down until firmly seated.

Lockshield

Fit as above but do not fit a drive disk.

General information

Wheelhead valves are for manual control of radiators' (on/off) and are fixed on the 'flow' pipework.

Lockshield valves are for regulating the amount of water that passes through the radiator and are fixed on the 'return' pipework. They are Not required for manual control and should be left in pre-set position.

Identifying the wheelhead and lockshield valves if both tops are missing from a radiator and your heating system is on, turn it off (at your control switch) and leave until radiator/pipework is COLD. Then turn the heating system back on and whichever pipework (leading directly to the valve) is the first to get hot is the Wheelhead valve.

Optional accessories collar, for use with valve measurements up to 22mm. 4 Drive Discs, for wheelhead valves ONLY. One disc MUST be used.

Top removal, as the valve tops are tamperproof, use a pin hammer to tap off the top. Replace with a new top.

IMPORTANT do not fit replacement tops on leaking valves.

Fitting information please read carefully before attempting the fitting of tops

Wheelhead for a measurement of 21mm and under, use the collar with the 'lip' at the bottom. For 22mm use the collar with the 'lip' at the top. For 23mm discard the collar. For measurements over 23mm a commercial top is required.

N.B. for valves with tall bodies, leave collar slightly visible for better coverage.

Lockshield if using collar, push collar into the top. Push top down onto spindles and lightly tap with a pin hammer until firmly down.

Fit Drive Disk No.4 and retaining clip this way in

  1. Select ONE of the four drive discs in the pack. Choose the shape that corresponds best to the exposed valve spindle. (If necessary, carefully file the valve spindle).
  2. Place drive disc inside top and position over the locating pegs. Push fully in. when using drive disk No. 4 secure in place with the retaining clip.
  3. If using the collar, push collar into the top.
  4. Position top over spindle and rotate until the drive disc engages, a slight tension should be felt as the disc grips the spindle for turning.
  5. Lightly tap the top with a small pin hammer unit firmly down.
